The administrative engine behind hundreds of Washington’s independent arts initiatives, Shunpike, tapped me to create the branding for their new networking event series that gathers local arts & culture leaders to mingle and mind-meld.

Creative Direction
The term “Scenius” was coined by musician Brian Eno to describe a type of communal genius born when a collective of creative individuals come together to form an “ecology of talent.”
When the Shunpike team described to me the intention for their new private event series for Seattle arts leaders, Scenius surfaced as the perfect brand name. A peculiar word that makes more sense the longer you sit with it (sort of like much art), Scenius embodies the spirit of openness and collaboration.
When it came to the visual branding, the team urged for a vibrant color scheme that matched the whimsical energy of the name. I designed a retro-inspired identity with fluid edges and a high-contrast palette. Subtle visual codes are integrated in the finished graphics, such as cloud shapes that nod to Seattle’s climate and radiating lines to represent brains buzzing.
This was definitely a fun one!
